2 Skills A1 Listening and Speaking

CEFR level A1 is the minimum requirement for the following visa types:

  • Further Leave to Remain: for family route Leave to Remain.
  • Representative of an Overseas Business
  • Tier 2 (Sportsperson)

Test format: Video conference with an examiner Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English GESE Grade 2 | 6-minute speaking and listening test | Provisional result emailed by 9 am the day after the test | Certificate usually sent within 7 days | Speaking & Listening only

GESE Grade 2 is a 6-minute one-to-one interview with an examiner. One-to-one speaking
and listening tests with Trinity examiners are delivered remotely via video conference on aTrinity tablet device which will be set up by your personal steward at a UKVI-approved
Trinity SELT centre.

2 SKILLS A2 Listening and Speaking

Test format: Video conference with an examiner Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English GESE Grade 3 | 7-minute speaking and listening test | Provisional result emailed by 9 am the day after the test | Certificate usually sent within 7 days | Speaking & Listening only

GESE Grade 3 is a 7-minute one-to-one interview with an examiner. One-to-one speaking and listening tests with Trinity examiners are delivered remotely via video conference on a Trinity tablet device which will be set up by your personal steward at a UKVI approved Trinity SELT centre.

If you take your exam in a centre it will take place on a Trinity tablet device which will be set up by your personal steward at a UKVI approved Trinity SELT centre.

The exam is 10 minutes long. There are two parts:

  • You choose a topic to prepare in advance of the test, for discussion with the examiner
  • You must complete a Topic Form in advance and bring it with you to the exam.

Conversation:

  • You have a short conversation with the examiner about two subject areas chosen by the examiner. You also need to take a ‘Life in the UK’ Test as part of your application. This is not a Trinity test. Visit the government Home Office website for more information about the Life In The UK

2 SKILLS B1 Listening and Speaking

CEFR level B1 is the minimum requirement for the following visa types:

  • Indefinite Leave to Remain: ILR (Settlement/Permanent Residency) British Citizenship (Naturalisation) (This test can only be taken in the UK)

Test format: Video conference with an examiner Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken
English GESE Grade 5 | 10-minute speaking and listening test | Taken either at an
approved Trinity SELT centre or by home-based assessment (limited availability) |Provisional result emailed by 9 am the day after the test | Certificate usually sent within 7 days | Speaking & Listening only

GESE Grade 5 is a 10-minute one-to-one interview with an examiner. One-to-one speaking
and listening tests with Trinity examiners are delivered remotely via video conference on a Trinity tablet device which will be set up by your personal steward at a UKVI approved Trinity SELT centre.

All one-to-one speaking and listening tests with Trinity examiners are delivered remotely via video conference.

4 SKILLS B1 Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking

CEFR level B1 is the minimum requirement for the following visa types:

  • Tier 2 (General)
  • Student visa (this route replaces Tier 4) – (below degree level) – (Check with your institution)
  • Tier 2 Health and Care visa

Test format: Video conference with an examiner Trinity Integrated Skills in English ISE I B1 test | Test of 4 skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening | Taken at a UK Trinity SELT Centre | Certificate usually sent within 21 days

There are two ISE I exam modules – Reading & Writing and Speaking & Listening

  • The Reading & Writing part of the test is 2 hours long
  • The Speaking & Listening part of the test is 18 minutes long and conducted via a Trinity tablet device which will be set up by your personal steward
  • For a Secure English Language Test (SELT), both modules are taken on the same day at a UK Trinity SELT Centre. Candidates must pass both modules for an ISE I (B1) qualification.

Test format: Video conference with an examiner Trinity Integrated Skills in English ISE II B2 test | Test of 4 skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening | Taken at a UK Trinity SELT Centre | Certificate usually sent within 21 days
