A UK Home Office-approved SELT is required for visa applications for work, migration, or joining a family member in the UK. Depending on your purpose, visas require either a twoskill (Speaking & Listening) or a four-skill (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) test.
Tests for some visas can be taken inside the UK, while other visa applications require the test to be taken outside the UK. The specific requirements depend on the visa you are applying for.
Classes are private and tailored to your strengths and weaknesses. Your teacher will guide you through the different elements of your chosen test and advise you on what the examiners are looking for in each component.
You will take regular tests to familiarise yourself with the process and to build confidence for your test day.
The type of SELT you take depends on the visa you are applying for. Check details to find out which visa you need, the skills that will be tested, and the required level of English [here] (insert link).
We recommend booking a face-to-face online evaluation with one of our teachers. Book an
evaluation [here]
This evaluation is free to take, and you can book it with as little as 24 hours’ notice.
The duration of the evaluation will depend on the visa you are applying for:
Listening and Speaking Evaluation: Approximately 15 minutes
Reading Evaluation: An additional 10 minutes
Writing Evaluation:An additional 15 minutes
After the evaluation, the teacher will provide you with immediate feedback on your
performance. Additionally, you will receive an email with the detailed results of your
evaluation.
You will need to check which providers have test centres in your area. Your teacher will
have this information, or you can download the information as spreadsheet [here](insert
link). For the latest updates, visit the UK Government website. Check the government
website [here](insert link).
Each provider offers a slightly different SELT exam. Check the various formats [here](insert
link). Don’t worry if you can’t decide right away; you and your teacher will choose the best
SELT exam to suit your strengths.
Once you have decided which SELT test is best for you, you can then choose the most
suitable course. It’s best to discuss this process with your teacher to help you make the right
decision.
For courses aimed at meeting the two-skill visa requirement, check [here](insert link).
Finally, once you have chosen the SELT exam and SELT Central English language course you would like to take, you can make your booking either online [here](insert link) or with your teacher. Details on courses and prices can be found [here](insert link).
