Part 3 Speaking & Listening | Conversation

  • You will hear a short conversation and then you will be asked a question. You will be asked to answer five questions in the ‘Conversation’ segment.

A1 2 skills Listening and Speaking

A1 Listening and Speaking. CEFR level A1 is the minimum requirement for the following visa types:

  • Further Leave to Remain: for family route Leave to Remain
  • Representative of an Overseas Business
  • Tier 2 (Sportsperson)

Test format: Computer PTE Home A1 | The PTE Home A1 test has 32 questions and lasts for up to 22 minutes. There are 3 question types:

Part 1 Speaking & Listening

  • The first part of the test is a combined Listening and Speaking task. You will be asked to repeat 22 questions in the ‘Repeat Sentence’ segment. You must repeat them using the correct vocabulary, word order and pronunciation.

Part 2 Speaking | Describe Image:

  • The second part of the test is to describe an image. You will have 25 seconds to study an image and then you will need to describe the image. You must talk for about 25 seconds. You do this five times, and you must make sure that you are able to keep talking for the full period.

A2 Listening and Speaking. CEFR level A2 is the minimum requirement for the following
visa types:

Test format: Computer PTE Home A2 | The PTE Home A2 test has 30-33 items and lasts up to 25 minutes. There are 3 question types:

Part 1 Speaking & Listening | Repeat Sentence

  • The first part of the test is a combined Listening and Speaking task. You will be asked to repeat between 22-23 questions in the ‘Repeat Sentence’ segment. You must repeat them using the correct vocabulary, word order and pronunciation.

Part 2 Speaking | Describe Image

Test format: Computer PTE Home B1 | PTE Home B1 has 32 questions and lasts up to 22 minutes. There are 4 question types:

Part 1 Speaking & Listening | Repeat Sentence

  • The first part of the test is a combined Listening and Speaking task. You will be asked to repeat between 17 questions in the ‘Repeat Sentence’ segment. You must repeat them using the correct vocabulary, word order and pronunciation.

Part 2 Speaking | Describe Image

B1 Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. CEFR level B1 is the minimum requirement for the following visa types:

  • Tier 2 Health and Care visa

Test format: Computer PTE Academic B1 | Academic B1 has 32 questions and lasts up to 22 minutes. There are 21 question types:

Part 1: Speaking & Writing | This part of the test has 7 question types and is between 54-67 minutes

  • Personal Introduction: The Personal Introduction is an opportunity for you to give your selected institutions some information about yourself. (This part of the test is not scored)
  • Read Aloud: Text appears on the screen. Read the text aloud.
  • Repeat Sentence: After listening to a recording of a sentence, repeat the sentence.
  • Describe Image: An image appears on the screen. Describe the image in detail.
  • Re-tell Lecture: After listening to or watching a lecture, re-tell the lecture in your own words. The audio begins to play automatically. You may also see an image related to the audio. After the audio finishes, you have 10 seconds to prepare before you re-tell the lecture.
  • Answer Short Question: After listening to a question, answer with a single word or a few words. The audio begins to play automatically. You may also see an image. Answer the question with one or a few words.
  • Summarize Written Text: You have 10 minutes to write your summary. Make sure to include the main points of the reading passage in a full, single sentence of no more than 75 words
  • Essay: Write a 200–300 word essay on a given topic. For this item type, you need to write a 200–300 word argumentative essay in response to a prompt. You have 20 minutes to write your essay.

Part 2 Reading | This part of the test is 29-30 minutes long and it contains five different question types.

  • Reading & Writing: Fill in the Blanks: For this item type, you need to select the most appropriate words from a drop-down list to restore the text.
  • Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer: After reading the text, answer a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text by selecting more than one response.
  • Re-order Paragraphs: Several text boxes appear on the screen in random order. Put the text boxes in the correct order.
  • Fill in the Blanks: The text appears on a screen with several gaps in it. Drag words from the box below to fill the gaps.
  • Multiple Choice, Single Answer: After reading the text, answer a multiple-choice question on the content or tone of the text by selecting one response.
